Digital Cultural Heritage Project
Proyecto digital de patrimonio cultural
As part of our efforts to make historical archaeology accessible to the public, in 2021 we began an interdisciplinary project focused on creating an immersive environment of the San Ignacio Jesuit church. In collaboration with digital artist, Justin Johnson, we are using photogrammetry and structured light scanning technology to capture the carefully renovated interior of the building, recreating it using video game development software to provide a detailed digital visit of the church. This immersive environment will provide historical and archaeological information gathered as part of the broader archaeological project and allow for many more people to experience this important colonial monument and learn about social life in Santafé and Bogotá.
The initial stages of this interdisciplinary project was funded with support from the Non-laboratory Scholarship/ Research Support Program (NSRP) from the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) and the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at NC State University.

Como parte de nuestros esfuerzos por divulgar el enorme potencial social de la arqueología histórica, en 2021 diseñamos un proyecto interdisciplinar centrado en la creación de un entorno inmersivo de la iglesia de San Ignacio. En colaboración con el artista digital Justin Johnson, empleamos tecnologías avanzadas de fotogrametría y escaneo de luz estructurada para capturar el interior de la iglesia restaurada, recreándolo mediante un software desarrollado dentro del ámbito de los videojuegos con el fin de ofrecer una visita digital detallada del monumento. Este entorno inmersivo proporcionará información histórica y arqueológica recopilada en el marco de nuestro proyecto arqueológico, permitiendo que un público más amplio visite la iglesia y aprendan sobre la vida social en Santafé y Bogotá.
Las etapas iniciales de este proyecto interdisciplinario fueron financiadas a través del Programa de Apoyo a Becas/Investigación No Laboratorial (NSRP) de la Oficina de Investigación e Innovación (ORI) y la Oficina del Vicerrector Ejecutivo y Vicerrector Académico de la Universidad Estatal de Carolina del Norte.
